Founded in 1978, this major has delivered nearly 10,000 graduates of mechanical design and manufacturing automation to society. At present, there are more than 900 students in this major at school. In the construction process of nearly 40 years, the specialty of mechanical design and manufacturing automation has been well developed as the dominant major of the school and college, and the school's achievements have been fully affirmed by society. In 2004, it was granted the right to grant a bachelor's degree. In 2010, it passed the acceptance of Jiangsu Province's characteristic specialty construction point. In 2011, it was approved as the second batch of a pilot specialty of the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program of the Ministry of Education. The first-class discipline of mechanical engineering was approved as the key construction discipline and the key construction major (machinery) of colleges in Jiangsu Province during the 12th Five Year period in 2012. In 2015, it was approved as the first phase project of a brand specialty construction project in Jiangsu Province.
1.1 Professional training objectives
The major of mechanical design and manufacturing automation is trained to meet the needs of socialist modernization, develop in an all-round way in morality, intelligence, physique, and esthetics, with basic knowledge of machinery, electronics, control, information, and computer application, and master the basic knowledge, application methods and basic skills of mechanical product design, manufacturing automation, etc.; To cultivate senior technical talents, through comprehensive training in mechanical design and manufacturing automation, after graduation, he will be engaged in mechanical product design and manufacturing, technology application and equipment transformation, operation management, operation, and sales in production line of the manufacturing industry.

2. Master the basic theory and skills of modern design, have strong application ability of automation technology, be able to use computer-aided design technology proficiently, and initially can comprehensively use mechanical, electronic, hydraulic and other knowledge to design mechanical products.
3. Be familiar with the basic theory, technology and equipment of modern mechanical manufacturing, be able to formulate the processing and assembly process regulations for mechanical products, correctly select and design the process equipment, and have the basic knowledge and ability to detect, analyze and control the processing quality and product performance.
4. Master the basic theory of automatic control, be familiar with CNC technology, and initially have the ability to operate and maintain modern mechanical manufacturing systems such as CNC machine tools, machining centers, and flexible manufacturing systems.

2.1 Teachers
This major is affiliated to the Department of Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering. Currently, there are 16 professional teachers, including 5 professors, 8 associate professors (including senior engineers), and 7 professional teachers with doctoral degrees. The professional title structure, age structure and academic qualification structure of the teaching staff are reasonable, with high professional theoretical level and strong practical ability. Many of the teachers have won the title of provincial and municipal government talent projects, including 1 young and middle-aged scientific and technological leader in Jiangsu Province, 1 young and middle-aged academic leader in the Qinglan Project of Jiangsu Province, and 4 backbone teachers of the Qinglan Project in Jiangsu Province, 3 high-level talents in the Six Peaks project in Jiangsu Province, 4 third-level training objects in the 333 Project in Jiangsu Province, 2 talent in the Longcheng Talents project in Changzhou and 2 innovative and entrepreneurial talents in the 831 project. In addition, there is a scientific and technological innovation team of Changzhou Institute of Technology, and the proportion of full-time teachers who have overseas visiting experience exceeds 50%.
2.2 Experimental conditions
This major has several professional laboratories for mechanical design, mechanical manufacturing, hydraulic transmission, geometric accuracy measurement, electromechanical transmission control, testing and control, and about 80 sets of teaching instruments and equipment with a unit price of more than 50,000 yuan. Students can also get skills training and exercise for related types of work and positions in the Engineering Training Center and the Mechanical Engineering Practice Teaching Center. In addition, the specialty also shared the resources of the key construction laboratory of digital electrochemical machining in Jiangsu Province.
This major has jointly established three types of practice base of cooperation, close cooperation and integrated development with more than 40 enterprises such as Xinyu Group Co., Ltd., Yongqi (Changzhou) Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd., Changchai Co., Ltd., and Jiangsu Nanfang Bearing Co., Ltd., which has created favorable conditions for helping students expand their practical engineering horizons and realize the integration of industry and education.

In the past three years, the teachers of this major have carried out active exploration and research in the aspects of talent training mode, excellent course construction, teaching mode and method reform, teaching quality monitoring, etc., and have been approved several teaching reform and construction projects, and published 10 teaching and research papers. Relying on the construction and development of key construction disciplines in Jiangsu Province - Mechanical Engineering, Jiangsu Digital Electrochemical Machining Key Construction Laboratory, Changzhou Special Processing Key Laboratory, etc. Professional teachers actively carry out academic research, and undertake city-level and above 17 scientific research projects, publish more than 20 high-level academic papers, obtain 9 authorized invention patents, and 2 first prizes for National Commercial Science and Technology Progress.
